What you’ll need:
One sheet of paper
Markers or pencils whatever you have on hand
Choose three different pieces of music from the playlist below or set the playlist to random
Step 1 - TAKE A BREATH
Take a quiet moment to arrive post practice. You might close your eyes or simply soften your focus and notice your breath.
Let your body settle. Then get out your page.
Step 2 - Music & RHYThm
As the first piece of music begins, choose the colour of your pen or marker and place it on the page. Keep it there the whole time.
Let your line move slowly, following the rhythm of the sound. Allow your whole arm to move, not just your hand.
Step 3 - Music & energy
On the same page, when the second piece of music begins, change your approach. Let your marks respond to the energy. If you have other colours you might change markers.
You might press harder or softer, move faster or slower, repeat shapes or create sharp changes. Let the music guide you.
Step 4 - MUSIC & FEELING
For the final piece, notice the feeling of the music. Is it calm, heavy, light, expansive? You have the option to change markers if it feels right.
Let that feeling guide the shapes and space on your page. You might fill the page or leave areas open.
Step 5 - colour
Now add one more colour or layer over your drawing, intuitively or aesthetically responding to what is already there.
Step 6 - QUICK REFLECTION
Did the music change the way your hand moved? When did you stop thinking and begin responding?
Creativity connects your body, your emotions and your attention.
