What you’ll need:
Paper
Pencil or pen
A plant, flower or natural object
Step 1 - TAKE A BREATH
Take a quiet moment to arrive post practice. You might close your eyes or simply soften your focus and notice your breath.
Think gently about these questions:
What do I believe creativity is?
Do I see myself as creative?
There is no need to write long answers. Just notice what comes up.
Step 2 - DRAWING
Place your object in front of you.
Begin drawing it, but keep your eyes only on the object, not your paper.
Slowly trace the edges with your eyes and allow your hand to follow.
Let the line move at the same pace as your looking. Try not to lift your pen.
Step 3 - DRAW YOUR HAND
Now draw your other hand in the same way.
Keep your eyes on your hand and let your drawing follow the shape without checking the page.
Step 4 - QUICK REFLECTION
What did you notice while you were drawing? Did anything feel different when you weren’t trying to make it look right? Did you begin to see more detail than usual?
Creativity begins with attention, not talent.
