Ritual for Grief

Mantra with Sian
10 min · release - loss - shiva

Maha Mrtyunjaya holds the highest place together with Gayatri as the supreme mantras for chanting, contemplation and meditation. Also known as the Death Conquering Mantra, it can be used to create a personal ritual after someone passes. Western culture has lost many of it’s traditional processes for grieving, so be able to practice or listen to a mantra like this can support us in difficult times.

You are welcome to:

  • Sit with Sian and chant the mantra, taking time to rest and meditate after the 6 rounds is completed

  • Continue to repeat the rounds more than once (as many times as you need)

  • Create a fire and after each round of mantra offer something to the fire (a thought, some paper from your journal) and as you do say the mantra SWAHA
